Updated October 2026
The best holiday furniture deals are only a deal if the furniture arrives in time. A sofa that shows up on December 29 won’t help when the family arrives on the 24th.
This guide covers the key 2026 dates, when to order each type of furniture for Christmas delivery, live Amazon prices, and tips for giving furniture as a gift.
How we put this guide together: the 2026 USPS dates come from USPS, and the furniture order-by dates are our own planning targets, not retailer deadlines. See how we review furniture.
Holiday Furniture Deals 2026: Key Dates
- Black Friday, November 27, 2026: the biggest day for holiday furniture deals. See our Black Friday furniture deals hub.
- Cyber Monday, November 30, 2026: mostly online deals. See our Cyber Monday furniture deals.
- Green Monday, December 14, 2026: a big online shopping day, and about the last safe week for most boxed furniture.
- December 17–19, 2026: USPS’s last recommended send-by dates for parcels to arrive before Christmas.
- Christmas Day: Friday, December 25, 2026.
- After Christmas: clearance and New Year sales, which are better for planning than for gifts.
When to Order Furniture for Christmas Delivery

How early you need to order holiday furniture deals depends on how the furniture ships. Small, boxed items travel by parcel carriers. Large, assembled pieces go by freight, and the retailer schedules a delivery appointment.
| Furniture type | How it usually ships | Our suggested order-by date |
|---|---|---|
| Custom and made-to-order sofas, sectionals, beds | Built after you order, then freight | October, or ask the retailer for a delivery estimate |
| Large assembled pieces: dressers, dining sets, assembled sofas | Freight or white-glove, by appointment | By Black Friday or Cyber Monday (Nov 27–30) |
| Boxed furniture: sofas and mattresses in a box, bed frames, desks | Parcel carriers, often in several boxes | By about December 7 |
| Small pieces: nightstands, side tables, ottomans, stools | Parcel carriers | By about December 14 |
| Last-minute buys | In-stock items with a guaranteed date, or store pickup | Only if checkout shows delivery by December 24 |
These are planning targets, not retailer deadlines. The delivery date shown at checkout is what counts. For parcels, check the official USPS holiday shipping dates: for 2026, USPS recommends sending Ground Advantage by December 17, Priority Mail by December 18 and Priority Mail Express by December 19 for the contiguous U.S. UPS and FedEx publish their own dates.

Getting Ready for Big Holiday Deliveries

Large holiday deliveries go wrong for the same reasons every year: furniture that won’t fit through the door, and nobody home for the delivery window.
- Measure doorways, hallways, stairs and elevators, not just the room. Our sofa measuring guide shows how.
- Book freight deliveries for a day when you’re home, and confirm the time window the day before.
- Ask whether delivery includes setup and packaging removal, or whether you’ll assemble it yourself.
- Leave a few spare days before guests arrive in case a delivery is rescheduled.
Hosting Guests This Holiday?
If you’re expecting overnight guests, a sleeper sofa, futon or daybed adds a bed without a guest room. Our best sleeper sofas for holiday guests compares 9 options by room and budget. A storage bench gives guests somewhere to put their bags. Our space-saving bedroom furniture guide has more ideas for small homes.
Giving Furniture as a Gift
- Check the return policy before you buy. In 2025, Amazon extended its holiday return window to January 31 for most items bought between November 1 and December 31. Check the 2026 policy when it’s announced, and note that large furniture can have different return rules.
- Ask for a gift receipt, or keep the order details handy, so the recipient can exchange a size or color.
- Plan the assembly. A flat-pack bookshelf is a nicer gift if you offer to put it together.
- Think about where it will be stored. Large boxes are hard to hide, so time the delivery for when the recipient is out.
6 Smart Tips for Holiday Furniture Deals
- Check the delivery date before checkout, not just the price.
- Buy large pieces over Thanksgiving weekend. Waiting for a slightly better December price can cost you Christmas delivery.
- Check the price history. If the holiday price matches the October price, it isn’t really a discount.
- Check who sells and ships it. Items shipped by Amazon or the retailer itself usually have the most reliable delivery dates.
- Measure twice. Returns are slow and costly in December.
- Have a backup. If delivery slips, a gift card or a printed photo of the piece still works under the tree.
What About After-Christmas Furniture Sales?
After Christmas, holiday furniture deals turn into clearance and New Year sales, with good prices on floor models and clearance stock. They’re better for planning your own home than for gifts. Our best time to buy furniture guide covers every major sale through the year.
Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on how it ships. Order custom pieces in October, large freight items like dressers and assembled sofas by Black Friday or Cyber Monday (Nov 27–30), and boxed furniture by about December 7. Always check the delivery date shown at checkout.
For the contiguous U.S., USPS’s 2026 send-by dates for delivery before December 25 are December 17 for Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail, December 18 for Priority Mail and December 19 for Priority Mail Express. They apply to parcels, not freight furniture.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday usually have the widest range of furniture deals. December sales can still be good, but delivery times get tighter, so large pieces are safer to buy over Thanksgiving weekend.
Boxed furniture ships fastest: sofas in a box, mattresses in a box, flat-pack bed frames, desks, nightstands and small accent pieces. Assembled and made-to-order furniture takes longest.
Usually, but check first. In 2025, Amazon extended its holiday return window to January 31 for most items bought from November 1 to December 31. Large furniture can have different return rules and return shipping costs.
